Film Production Degree

AIU offers a professionally focused BFA in Media Production degree program with a specialization in Digital Film and Post Production that can give students an opportunity to learn industry-current knowledge and skills applicable in today’s film, video and audio markets. The degree offers a solid foundation in the areas of audio and electronic music production, general media production, editing and computer animation and special effects production. In this specialized curriculum, students can focus intently and advance their abilities in areas specifically related to film production.

  • Successful completion of the BFA in Media Production with a specialization in Digital Film and Post Production can provide students with an applicable foundation of industry-related knowledge and skills, including how to:

     

    • Demonstrate a thorough technical understanding of the three phases of the motion picture production process (preproduction, production and postproduction).
    • Generate and properly utilize industry-standard paperwork to track and control all three phases of motion picture production.
    • Demonstrate technical competency with various industry-standard software, camera, grip and lighting, and recording technologies.
    • Demonstrate an understanding of on-set protocol/behavior and professionalism appropriate to field, studio and postproduction applications.
    • Contribute appropriately in a variety of positions to the production of motion picture projects.
    • Develop film/video projects from concept to finished product, on time and on budget, to a client’s specifications.
    • Organize and manage self-directed film/video production projects.

    • In this specialized curriculum, students have an opportunity to learn an understanding of the entire process of film production, with an emphasis on screenwriting, motion picture photography and lighting styles and directing. The experiences and firsthand perspectives they may share in class can help prepare you for real-life challenges after you graduate. For example:

      • In Film & Audio Aesthetics, students can learn how to analyze film in terms of form, structure, cinematography, editing and use of sound and music.
      • In Directing, students can learn director’s role in each of the three phases of film production in order to achieve a specific vision.
      • In Production Techniques III, students can explore either a drama or a documentary production in depth and over two consecutive terms.

    • Upon completing the Digital Film and Post Production specialization program, students will be prepared to embark as creative professionals in a variety of film and video markets.

      In addition to covering the broad knowledge elements of the field, from the principle stages of production and editing to the theories and principles at work during each, students will also participate in independent projects from concept through the creation of a professional-quality package. Working in groups and alone, students will be tasked with putting their knowledge and skills to work in a variety of industry roles.
